lmar Oliquino is a graduate of Agrostudies from the Philippines who has been busy and fruitful since his return to his home country. Today he owns 2 farms and is training the next generation of farmers in organic growing methods. His actions are truly inspirational and very impressive!
He began with one farm, called “Egreen Summer farm”. It consists of 2 greenhouses in which he grows tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, kale, zucchini, herbs and other green leaves. His farm was so successful that in a national contest, the “Villar Sipag Youth Poverty Reduction Challenge”, his farm was named one of the top ten youth social enterprises in the Philippines. There are over 100 million people living in the Philippines so that is all the more impressive.
Using the money he won in the contest he decided to open a second farm called the “Summer Set Organic Farm”. His vision is to make this farm an instructional tool for young famers, to help alleviate poverty. The business model utilizes elements from the cooperative system. Agriculture students work on the farm, and learn how to employ organic methods and as they are part of the team constructing the farm they also receive a share of the farm income, while they are still in school. He already has 12 members who are also agriculture students.
In addition, he is an instructor and trainer at the JAD family Farm School in Libon Albay, in the Philippines where he teaches organic agricultural seminars and works as a private farm consultant, spreading his knowledge and experience in all directions and pulling more and more enthusiastic agriculturalists up with him.
We can’t wait to see where he’ll be in 5 years!
